VHS into DVD?

I have a dvd/vhs combo, and I was wondering, is it possible to convert a vhs into dvd just by putting the vhs in and putting a blank dvd in and pressing record? If not, is there any way that I can do it WITHOUT purchasing a dvd recorder?

Usually you can take your VHS tapes to the local video store and they can transfer them to DVD. You're better off just buying your favorites on dvd so you get the best quality and extra features. If it's home movies then go to the video store. And for god sake people let the tapes go! store them next to your 8 track tapes and move on!

Get a cheap TV tuner card.  They all come with software to tell you how to burn it to a DVD.  You can do fancy titles :)  Some of them in USB cost only $60.
