VHS to PC with s-video switch?

So I have this short recording on a VHS tape. I would ideally like to have it on my PC. (preferably avi)

Right now I have a S video switch, and a computer (laptop really) with a s-video out.

Would:

Laptop <-> s video cable <-> s video switch <-> RCA cables <-> VHS machine

work? And if so what program would I need?

 1. Nope, not gonna work that way. You said yourself, the pc's s-video is an OUTPUT. Your gonna have to figure out a way to run a line from the vcr's output to the pc's INPUT. Your best bet would probably be to get an (external) video capture card that has rca inputs (for the vcr) and connects to your laptop via usb port. Obviously, this capture card would come with the program needed to run and convert your video.
