  1. Algore invented Vietnam

He named it after a pet tobacco plant that he raised

It became a country after algore invented it

It's changed with global warming caused by GW BUSH

The war happened because of GW BUSH for BIG OIL

It lasted a long time to support the military industrial complex which GW BUSH owned. (even though he is an idiot)

GW BUSH won, because although he's so stupid according to his critics, he still managed to make TRILLIONS.

I answered all of them, do I get a prize?

How did Vietnam gets is name? Why is it called Vietnam?

Vietnam comes from the original name of “Nam Viet”, which is the Vietnamese translation of Chinese “Nan Yue” This loosely translates to being the Yue people of the South. The First Nguyen Emperor, Gia Long, officially named the country Viet Nam by switching Nam and Viet to keep from being confused with the original Chinese name for the country.

When did Vietnam become a country?

Vietnam as we know it today became a country in 1803 when Gia Long defeated the Tay Son Dynasty and other powerful families to reunite both North and South Vietnam for the first time in 300 years. Vietnam’s history can go back 4,000, but it’s history is hard to trace beyond 200 BC. Vietnam’s first known complete autonomy as a country was in 938, when Ngo Quyen defeated the Han fleet at the Bach Dang River.

What changes has Vietnam faced over time?

There are too many changes to list, but I’ll try.

For many centuries, Vietnam was predominantly what we know now as North Vietnam. South Vietnam was split between the Champa and Khmer. China had taken over Vietnam on three occasions and then repelled all three times. The last time China controlled Vietnam was from 1407-1427. Le Loi started a revolt that lasted 10 years, which gradually beaten the Chinese for the final time. Leo Loi proclaimed himself emperor and Vietnam gradually expanded south from that moment. The Champa were defeated and then the Khmer till Vietnam became what we know it today.

Vietnam has had numerous conflicts between powerful families and it’s emperors throughout its history. Vietnam has had between nine to twelve dynasties depending on whom you ask. The transition between dynasties usually happens with a powerful leader, who usually started as a peasant, overthrows a previous weak dynasty and creates a new dynasty. The heirs of the dynasty are progressively weaker than the previous one and are eventually overthrown or China attempts to take over the country again.

Because of the numerous dynasty changes, powerful families had more control over Vietnam than their Emperor did and effectively split Vietnam into several pieces. Of the most powerful families were the Trinh, Nguyen and Mac. The Mac Family controlled much of the Northern half of North Vietnam, but the Trinh had progressively beaten back the Mac family until the Trinh controlled all of North Vietnam. The Nguyen family controlled South Vietnam and expanded to what we know of it today.

The Nguyen family was almost entirely wiped out in the 1771 Tay Son rebellion with exception of prince Nguyen Anh. Nguyen Anh raised armies and attacked several power families until finally defeating them all and reunited all of Vietnam as one country. Nguyen Anh changed his name to Gia Long (parts of the names of what was then Saigon and Hanoi) and became the first emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty. The Nguyen Dynasty would be the last Vietnam dynasty to rule over Vietnam. The Nguyen Dynasty ended in 1945 when Bao Dai abdicated his throne.

During the Nguyen Dynasty was the French colonization of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos as Indochina. This is arguably what eventually led to the Vietnam War.

    Why did the war happen?

Why the war happened depends on which perspective you take. For the U.S., it was to stop the spread of communism. For Ho Chi Minh and the North Vietnamese, it was to reunite Vietnam was as a single country again. For the South Vietnamese it was to keep from being controlled under communism. For the French, it was to retake their colonies.

    How long did it last?

U.S. military advisory started in 1955. U.S. military combat action started in 1965 and ended in 1973. Vietnam had experienced some kind of military conflict from WWII, when the Japanese took over the country, until April 30, 1975, when Saigon fell the Vietnam War ended. Technically, Vietnam continued military action into 1979, when they invaded Cambodia and the brief conflict with China.

    Who won?

There were four separate wars that Vietnam was directly involved in during an era of conflict between 1945 and 1979. The First Indochina War was France vs Vietnam, and Vietnam won. The Second Indochina War was the South Vietnam and U.S. vs North Vietnam and Viet Cong, and North Vietnam won. The Third Indochina War was China vs Vietnam, and both claimed that they won. The fourth war was Vietnam invading Cambodia. Although Vietnam was victorious in invading Cambodia and controlled it for a few years, Vietnam’s economy completely collapsed in the process, which eventually forced Vietnam to abdicate. Cambodia has since become a sovereign democratic nation again, and this could be considered a loss to Vietnam. So, the final tally is:

    Vietnam: won 2, tie 1, lost 1

    France: lost 1

    U.S.: lost 1

    China: tie 1

    Cambodia: won 1

You better get an “A” on your homework now….
