I had my pictures taken for a Spanish Student VISA and the lady at the pharmacy selected a ''European VISA'' size but then I went back and read the document from the consulate and it said I needed a passport-sized picture.

Are they that much of a difference? The focus is just a little closer to my face. And I'm wondering, would they refuse it if there's an actual European-VISA size..

Did I just throw $20 down the drain? I

'm headed to the consulate tomorrow!!!

  1. the picture  size for visa are supposed to be the same size as passports size

  2. U.S. Passport size photo is 2"x2" and the head must be between 1" to 1 - 3'8".  I'm applying for a renewal of my passport and am looking at the photo requirement provided on the form.

  3. Folks there is confusion here!

What size is the "European visa" photo you got? Somewhere around 4 x 5 cm?

The Spanish Student visa application should be a standard Schengen application, which requires a "standard passport-sized photo". This means standard EUROPEAN passport-sized photo which is about 4 x 5 cm. Not a US passport photo. Not a Canadian passport photo.

Don't you love assumptions different people here and government bureaucracies make even on their international forms? It's maddening.

My point: your pharmacy lady probably made the right choice for you. The size is probably labelled as "European Visa" because someone at Shoppers Drug Mart has figured this out, even though a better choice of label would be "European Passport Size, also suitable for European Visas".

    Have a  good trip

  4. The visa photo is has certain requirement which you should got if you have recieved some documents from the embassy. Surely there will be a delay if you submit the wrong picture. see the state department's website for the photo requirement (http://travel.state.gov) .
