VK Modranska PROSTEJOV loses by 1-3 to Fenerbahce Universal ISTANBUL – Volleyball news
A quarter-finals match of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League took place on February 1.
The match was hosted by Prostejov situated in Czech Republic. The two teams that competed with each other were the women’s squad of VK Modranska PROSTEJOV, belonging to Czech Republic as well as Fenerbahce Universal ISTANBUL from Turkey.
The match between the two sides took on exciting tones as it went on to four thrilling sets at the end of which the guests were celebrating their well deserved win that they secured at the following final set scores: 23-25, 25-23, 25-17 and 25-16.
The coach of the Czech side, Miroslav Cada, expressed himself in the following words after his team had lost the match, “We have played our best Volleyball for this season against a very strong rival. Thanks to that, we managed to keep an even score during
the first half of the match, and the audience watched a number of excellent rallies with perfect defense on both sides of the net.”
On the other hand, the coach of the winning team, Zé Roberto, shared his jubilation in the following manner, “I am happy for the victory in this extremely difficult match. The excellent service of the hosts caused us substantial problems but the quality
of our play gradually improved throughout the game, also thanks to the return of Lioubov Shashkova who was back after she had to nurse an injury.”
The first set of the match saw the host team take the charge as they were energised by the home crowd while the guests took some time in getting used to playing on their opponent’s turf.
The Czech was able to take the lead early on and stick with the advantage until the end of the frame at 25-23.
However, the first set was the only one that the Czech was able to secure as the next three were bagged by the guests with only the second one competitive. The loss of the second frame seemed to take steam out of the home squad as the third and the fourth
sets were dominated by Turkey at 25-17 and 25-16 respectively.
