if a player on the opposing team hits the ball and a girl on your team barely gets it up, then you shank it trying to recover it, does it still count as a kill for the girl who spiked it?

is that confusing?

  1. i always though a kill was kinda like an ace it went over and hits nothing but the ground..

  2. Good question. I think it might be if the other side can't receive the hit or barely does, like with great effort.

  3. Nope its not a kill the only way it would be a kill is if the first girl shanked it.  a shank on the dig is just an unfortunate mistake.  a kill is when the ball hits the ground on a hard hit or else is shanked at the first touch.  Hope i helped!

  4. Here is the official NCAA description of a kill.

Article 2. A kill (K) is awarded to a player any time an attack is unreturnable

by the opposition and is a direct cause of the opponent not returning the ball,

or any time the attack leads directly to a blocking error by the opposition. A

kill leads directly to a point. When a playeris

awarded a kill, the player also is

    awarded an attack attempt.

In the situation you described above, it is a kill.  You have seen that many people say it is a kill if the ball does not come back over the net.  If they pass it, set it and then hit it out, it is not a kill.  (When I used to keep stats, it was considered a kill if it was 0 or 1 touch.)   The kill has to be the DIRECT cause of the ball not being returned.

  5. i would consider that a kill because they didnt get it back over the net. but im not sure. that is confusing.

  6. nope

KILL - An attack that results in an immediate point or side out.

if the person gets it its not a kill

  7. O.K. IT WAS A LITTLE CONFUSING BUT I WILL EXPLAN.

will the person hit the ball and the team can not git it back over the net then that is a kill but if they do get it back over the net it is not a kill.

it does not matter it how many people hit it or not, but of course not more than 3 people!!!

  8. kill

  9. technically- no. if there is a second touch on the ball, even if it is just a bad play off a shank, two touches on the ball does not a kill make. i think most coaches and stat keepers would give the hitter credit for the kill, which she would deserve, but technically speaking a kill is like an ace- one touch or less is a kill. two touches is just a bad play

  10. Yes, I would consider it a kill. It kinda depends how quick this happened and how hard the ball was spiked. If it was a good hit and was soon shanked, yes that would be a kill..

  11. hmm i play volleyball and i always consider a kill if it hits the ground or the girl who digs it hardly touches it or shanks it...but i think really if the team doesnt return the kill to the other side it is considered a kill (unless the hitter on your side screws it up and hits it out or in the net...)
