  1. yeah i have!!

blaaha we where hitting outside before a game and i am ds and our hitter hits the ball while  i was looking the opposite way.tehe

wel i have had a sprain ankle and a wrist almost broke.

but to be honest if you get the game you really will not get hurt at all =)

  2. I've been playing volleyball for 6 years now and have only been hit in the face twice. I have faced some serious knee and ankle injuries, as long as a hip injury.

To avoid ankle injuries I would recommend Active Ankle. you can buy them at any sports store or on the web. (eastbay.com)

  3. Yes, you can get hit in the face, which is why you always have to be paying attention. I always get hit in the back of the head, lol. The worst that could happen is a broken nose, but I doubt it would hit that hard.

    As for other injuries...

Jammed fingers from setting the ball wrong

    Twisting your ankle.

    Harming your knee from digging.

getting caught in the net--lol, it's possible.

  4. omg yes!! i've been hit in the face 2x this past season! lol.but it's no big deal..everyone gets hit atleast once if they go all out. i broke my thumb blocking during the last week of practice..that's a more common injury. if you wear active ankles (ankle braces for volleyball players) when you play, you will be protected from ankle sprains or rolled ankles. Those are other common injuries. Most of all wear KNEE PADS!! you are bound to get some bruises if you play, but that's part of the fun!

  5. I played volleyball for 10 years competitevly and am now a club coach and I was only hit in the face with the ball once. Though really, any sport that has a flying ball has the possibility that it will hit your head.

Volleyballs will constantly fly towards you in defensive maneuvers and it is your job to control the ball's momentum, whether with your arms. If you are not quick enough, the ball can come straight for your head by way of a spike or serve, and hit you.

The fear of getting hit should not keep you from the sport though. I have broken bones, pulled muscles, and jammed fingers and I wouldn't have it any other way.

  6. i have been hit in the face plenty of times lol. but it doesnt hurt that bad and volleyball is a really fun sport so i think u should play it. =]

  7. i have been maybe once...

but that was bcause i wasnt paying attention=P

if you hit it at the right time you wont get hit

    plus itt doesnt hurt!

dont let it scare you though because you think you gonna get hit!

  8. okay i have played volleyball for about 4 years and i enjoy it. yeah you have a chance of geting hit but make sure you are ready so then if it does try to set it or take a step back and pass it. you  also have the risk of rolling an ancle hurting your fingers mostly thumbs from setting i messed up my shoulder by diving into the seats to get the ball. if you really want to do the sport DO IT it is fun!! but wrap up your wrist and wear knee pads and knee high socks. girl you will have fun and dont worry about getting hurt i got her 2 times out of the 4 years.

  9. i have gotten hit in the face many times. The vollleyball players are most likely to hurt your wrist, ankkle, knee, or shoulder

  10. Just like in every sport (except maybe golf...?), there's the risk of injuries. As many people have said, there's a lot of ankle injuries, jammed fingers (if you're a setter), and knee problems, especially later on in life (I had a friend who used to play college volleyball, stopped about 4 years ago, and still has problems with her knee.) And, yes, you can get hit in the face with the ball if you're not paying attention, or if you're setting the ball and it goes right through your hands (I've seen that happen once or twice...) but if the setter is good, it shouldn't happen often. Bruises are common, especially if you're a libero or DS (like me), because you're often diving for the ball. And of course, lack of communication poses problems also. My friend's team was playing, and two of their back row players smashed heads while trying to reach a ball. One had to go get stitches...but that shouldn't happen either if your team communicates. And yes, playing volleyball is SO worth whatever injuries you might get from it.

  11. LoL. Yah. You'LL Get Hit In The Face. But It Teaches You Too Move Quickerrr.!.!.

And Well If Your A Hitter You'll Probably Get Knee Problemss. (like me) besides the normal bruises (sp?) and stuff

  12. Yes, you can get hit in the face if you are digging and not in ready position to make a play. It will happen from time to time during your volleyball career. If you are just starting playing, however, most likely no one you play with/or against will hit hard enough to make it hurt.

In general, volleyball players are at risk for shin splints, knee problems (including sprains, mcl, acl), sprained ankles (if you are planning to play competitvely on a team, higher than recreational volleyball, you should probably invest in some ankle braces), and jammed fingers. Of course, there are other injuries (I got a concussion from slipping on sweat and banging my head of the gym floor) So anything can happen. Best idea is to work out and strengthen your muscles. This helps protect your body from injuries. Also communication on the court prevents injuries and collisions.

  13. yes! its happend to me 2wice but its ok  just be aware if the ball is coming to you.. be down and ready! ok the injuries twisted ankle thats about it the only thing i can think of is my friend slip on a vollyball in practice and broke her wrist.. but like what ate the chances of that happening.... good luck!

  14. Yes, it is common to get hit in the face, I have...but it doesn't hurt bad enough to stop playing.  With all the quick movements and jumping required, you may also strain/sprain an ankle.  When you begin to dive, you are also likely to get bruises on your hips, elbows, etc.  but they get better eventually.  Overall, volleyball is worth the injuries!

  15. yes. you are VERY likely to get hit with a volleyball in the face and anywhere else.

you might sprain your ankle, jam a finger, break a finger, hurt your knee in some way, break your nose. Those are just some basic/common injuries.

  16. well if you're a complete beginner, most likely you will get hit in the face once or twice, but it's no biggie since a volleyball isn't rock solid. other injuries involved with volleyball are pulled muscles and jammed fingers, but i'd recoment playing, it's an awesome sport, good luck =D.

  17. oooo yaaaa ha ha ur face will def get hit once or twice a year... maybe more for u. jk lol. ummm u mainly risk ankle twisting, spraining, and breaking and ummm wrist and finger breaking.

  18. uh duh! obviously if a ball is involved in ANY sport but especially volleyball will most definitly hit you in the face at some point. even if you are not proned to it. if you really want to play the sport you really won't mind a hit or two :x

  19. Lol, im sorry, but volleyball is a sport in which you will get hit with a ball, especially when your a libero (like me). Ive been hit before, but never anything serious. I guess if someone hit it hard enough they could break your nose, or even give yo ua concussion. But dont let that stop you from playing the sport you love ;)

  20. Well most likely you will get floor burn from sliding and diving for balls. Any exposed skin that rubs the floor is at risk. If you are a setter then jammed fingers is likely. As a hitter/blocker you could sprain an ankle, knee, or hip. As well as injure your arm or shoulder. Getting hit in the face is usually not a big concern since the ball is fairly soft unless you are on the receiving end of a spike that happens to squeek through your arms & hands.

  21. Yes I have been h itt in my younger stages of volleyball. Not swinging at the proper time and not payign attention, but you will learn from it like everything else. Yes you can get inguriews. Sprained wrists ancles. Leg muscles ect.. but you have to warm up before a practice or a game. But no pain no game. Also broken fingers. I have broken my thumb from setting like a year ago cause i wasnt setting properly which believe me you will do fine becuase im the only person in he world whoc an not set properly and i was also usign an adult ball. Big no no.

I hope this helps and do play volleyball it seams painful, but it really isnt!

  22. What you have to learn, is to instinctively do the right thing, when you get the impression you may be hit in the face.

If you have someone to practice with, you can ask them to spike to you, to do low spikes first - and then go for your face.  That way you can prepare yourself earlier and be ready - there's only one technique (a double hand block/pass technique, using the bottom of your hands). If you're unsure where the ball is going, you can at least be prepared for a high ball, so that your face is protected always.

The most common injury is the ankle twist, at the net, where you jump up and you land on the other team player's feet. You wear proper shoes that provide ankle support to prevent or lessen this injury.

The other most common injury is to your fingers, with using a hard (or heavy) volleyball. I do recomend using a very soft and lightweight Mikasa Training Series VUL500 volleyball, at the right air pressure (where you can press your thumbs in about 1/8th inch). But it's not a regulation weight - and is very light compared to the standard volleyball.  Anyway, using the above volleyball, you will get no injuries with it. Otherwise use a regular volleyball, at the above air pressure mentioned.  Most players will say however --- it's flat, or it's under the recomended airpressure. I totally disagree with this - because I will always say that safety is always the first requirement to be met. Also I am very sick and tired of getting finger injuries over the many years I have been playing volleyball, in which I got very serious injuries from rock hard volleyballs being used. Even the soft volleyball above, will be 'hard' when too much airpressure is used.

You just need to talk about injuries with long time players - to get some idea of the injuries they have suffered.  Usually they will say - they have gotten tons of injuries and just suffered their way through it.  Well, there is no need for all that suffering and inconvenience (I, for one, like to keep my finger dexterity intact for the other stuff I use my fingers for...) because I have mentioned the prevention and cure above.

Knowing how to treat a twisted ankle (read about first aid) is important, because this will greatly aid in your recovery.  It is not complicated at all to treat.  You do have to put up with the pain, however.

  23. yeah!! i've ttly been hit in the face!! but who cares if u get hit in the face?? volleyball is hella fun!!! if u don't have kneepads on, and need to dive for the ball, then u might scrape ur knees(kneepads are required). unless u r a wimp (no offense) then a 3-ounce padded ball will not hurt u at all. if u need anymore feedback, pls email me. glad 2 help!!!!!

  24. YES!!! i have n even in a game!!! but as far as i know their are no injurys for getting in hit with a ball

  25. yes u can get hit in the face. I have :D. You rarely see injuries in volleyball. Some are small ones, like if u twist ur ankle or hit a ball 2 hard and hurt ur hand. Happy to answer any volleyball questions. I may not know the answer, but volleyball is my fab sport, so I'll do my best!!!

  26. you will get jammed fingers if you are a setter and you will get knee injuries

  27. well i got  hit in the face in the side of the face and i fell on my butt like 5 time and on my kness but that how i am but im like the best on the team and well when you get hit you get over it so dont stop playing now!!!!!!!

  28. lol.. you won't be a certified volleyball player if you still haven't gotten hit in the face! Seriously though, it is really common to get hit in the face in volleyball but mostly the injuries in volleyball are concerning the legs. Because you jump a lot and sometimes dive for the ball, your legs are very vulnerable. Shoulders are also vulnerable when you're spiking the ball..

  29. Yes i have gotten hit in the face and it hurts. When you play volleyball you can also get floor burns on your hips, arms, legs, and basically any were you have skin. You can also break your ankle or sprain it. You can also jam your fingers. Their are other injuries but volleyball is still fun. MERRY CHRISTMASS

  30. yeah, there is a pretty big chance you'll be hit in the face. it happens a lot, it also kinda depends on your position. here are some problems that might occur in each position

Outside Hitter/ Middle blocker/Right Front- Knee problems a lot of the time also ankle problems. I have ankle problems but i started using Active Ankle T2 ankle braces and I'm doing much better.

    Setter- jammed fingers...

Defensive Specialist-A lot of floor burns, bruises, sore arms from passing but that goes away really quickly just after the first few weeks.

So basically you might face some problems but volleyball is totally worth it!!

  31. you can get hit in the face it will only hurt if it is hit hard
