  1. An effective serve starts with a good toss. A good toss is one that isn't too high or too low - one that is in your comfortable hitting range. The toss should also be somewhat to the side of which you will be hitting it. On the toss up, lean back. When you go to hit the ball, lean forward. This will transfer energy and make the ball go over.

Depending on where you serve, always aim the ball. Think about the player you are going to serve it too. This helps with getting it over.

  2. Practice the toss. If you can get a good toss your serves are much more likely to go over consistently.

Also right before you serve visualize the ball going over. Something that works for me is to think "over and in" as I'm serving the ball. It sounds kind of dumb but it really does work because if I think I'm going to miss it I usually do.

  3. You do not want to get the ball to high because then when it comes down it comes down harder and faster so that can mess you up. Next all you want to do is throw about arms length over your head, step with the opposite foot you serve with, hit fast and and with an open hand and thats all it's pretty easy.
