VRT driver Jerome d’Ambrosio in talks with team to extend contract for 2012 season – Formula 1 news
Virgin Racing Team driver Jerome d’Ambrosio has said that he is currently in talks with the team regarding a possible contract extension for the 2012 Formula 1 season.
He claims that he will stay at the team as a race driver and since the team has recently signed a contract extension with Timo Glock, they are now thinking about his future as well.
“I am very much supported by Gravity. It allows me to just get on with what I have to do at the Grands Prix,” said d’Ambrosio when asked about his future plans.
The young driver joined the team recently and since then, the team has been hoping for some good results from him as he is driving alongside an experienced driver, Timo Glock.
The team is improving its performance but they are yet to secure their first points. VRT became a part of Formula 1 back in 2010 and since then, they have been finishing races alongside Team Lotus and Hispania Racing Team at the very back of the grid.
Nevertheless, they are becoming quite reliable as a result of which, Jerome stated after the German Grand Prix that he was happy with his performance at the Nurburgring.
“It was a slight turn, I hope, in my season, because until now I have had some bad patches, especially on Saturdays. But in Germany I managed to put everything in place and be close to my team-mate all weekend. I have finished 9 of the 10 races, which is
important because it means I have made few mistakes. I have to continue like that,” he said.
Team Lotus however, are still the best out of the three new teams as they have consistently been finishing ahead of HRT and VRT. They even qualified for the Q2 round during qualifying sessions by defeating Williams. These results are quite encouraging for
them but one has to admit that VRT are pretty much alongside Team Lotus in terms of pace in the ongoing 2011 season.
