VVS Laxman shocked over Vaseline allegations – Cricket News Update
India’s batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Paul-Vaughan-c76145, for accusing him of using Vaseline on his bat.
The middle-order batsman, Laxman, who was talking to the media during India's practice session, expressed shock over Vaughan's statement.
Earlier, the former English skipper blamed Laxman for suspected use of Vaseline on the edge of his bat to deceive the hot spot technology.
During India’s 1st inning in the 2nd Test match against England, at Trent Bridge, Laxman was ruled not-out on a caught-behind appeal. The English side requested for a review in order to challenge the field umpire’s decision.
The Poms were confident that ball edged Laxman’s bat; however, according to the hot spot there was no discernible edge, which forced former English captain, Vaughan, to speculate that the batsman might have tried to cheat the technology with the help of Vaseline.
“Has Vaseline on the outside edge saved the day for Laxman?" he wrote on a social networking website.
However, the 36-year-old Laxman, who scored 54 runs during the 1st inning of the Trent Bridge Test match, has termed Vaughan’s allegation as a comic story.
"First of all, I had never heard that batsmen could apply vaseline. I have heard bowlers using it (vaseline) to shape the ball. I was quite surprised to hear that I used vaseline on the bat. It is surprising that people can make a joke out of all this," the Indian Test batman stated.
Laxman has played 125 Test matches for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, scoring 8270 runs with an average of 46.98, smashing 16 hundreds.
The Hyderabad-born batsman also participated in 86 One Day Internationals for his home team, scoring 2338 runs.
However, he has failed to shine much in the shorter version of the game, eve though he has been excellent in Tests.
Coming back to the ‘Vaseline-Controversy’, earlier, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013’s fast bowler, Broad claimed that he examined the Laxman’s bat, but did not find any such substance; however, the Indian batsman has denied that no one checked his bat.
"No, Broad did not check my bat. I don't know why he made such a comment. I am surprised that people are making stories out of everything," Laxman added.
