Venlose Trots keep their hopes of playing in the Eredivisie next season alive following a hard fought win over Hans de Koning’s side in the final round of the promotion/relegation play-offs.
On Thursday, May 17, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VVV-Venlo-c40915 cruised to a hard fought 2-1 win over Helmond Sport in the final round of promotion/relegation play-offs at Lavans Stadion.
Venlose Trots head coach, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ton-c35408 Lokhoff, was pleased with his side’s victory. However, the Dutch trainer also admitted that there is still a lot of work left to be done in the return leg, if they are to prolong their stay in the
Dutch top flight.
“This win does not guarantee us safety. We will still have to work hard in the return leg on Sunday to prolong our stay. However, I have to admit that it was a joyous moment when we scored two goals and managed to win the game
at the end”, Lokhoff was quoted as saying to Voetbal International.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258 Rotterdam midfielder went on to heap praise on his side’s efforts, especially after conceding the first goal.
“It was a difficult evening, but we played extremely well after conceding the goal. The game is not over yet, and we must forget about the win and look forward to play better in the return leg at home”, Lokhoff concluded.
Both sides had a number of scoring opportunities in the opening 45 minutes of the match. However, neither of the two sides managed to hit the back of the net and remained deadlocked at the half-time break.
After the interval, the home side resumed proceedings brightly and took the lead in 57th minute through Youssef Koubali. A Sebastian Stachnik pass was neatly collected by the 23-year-old midfielder who slotted home to
make it 1-0.
The visiting side restored parity in the 73rd minute through Ismo Vostermans, who perfectly headed a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-Holla-c10209 cross into the back of the net.
Three minutes before the full time whistle, Holla unleashed a powerful strike from 18 yards that sealed an impressive 2-1 win in favour of the Venlo outfit.
The two sides will meet at De Koel Stadion in the return leg on Sunday, May 20.
