Chaminda Vaas has signed a new deal to play all forms of cricket for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Northamptonshire-c824 during the 2011 season.
Vaas played for the county in the English Twenty20 competition this season and has now committed to Northants full-time. He scored 459 runs and took 17 wickets for the county during his stay this summer.
"Experience and quality are essential elements of a successful team and Chaminda brings both in abundance. The younger players especially will get real value from Chaminda and the club will continue to
move forward with him in the side,"
said Northants chief executive Mark Tagg.
Vaas will be an asset to the county in all forms of cricket. However, the 36-year-old will have to work hard on his fitness to play a long domestic cricket season.
A big asset
Vaas is an asset to the county because he has brilliant control in all forms of cricket. This control allows him to keep the pressure on the opposition. It's also effective in defence when things are not
going so well.
Vaas has lots of variations in his bowling. He can teach younger bowlers in the side how to disguise slower balls and put subtle amounts of cut on the ball. This will develop other bowlers and make Northants
a difficult side to play against because the bowling attack will be unpredictable.
His experience of different match situations will be useful. There will be times next season when young players are nervous and on edge. The county will look to Vaas as a calming influence. He can take
the pressure off of younger players during a game with the quality of his bowling and batting.
Head coach David Capel added: "He made an excellent contribution and it'll be great to have his all-round services to call upon more regularly."
Betting advice
Northants will be playing four-day cricket in the second division of the county championship. Vaas has enough quality to take a lot of wickets at second division level. Back him to be the highest wicket
taker in the second tier of cricket next year.
