  1. It really depends on what you want and how much you want to pay. Carnival is right near the bottom from a cost standpoint. I expect they give fair value on what you pay.

Don't expect anything special or great service or amenities.

With cruise lines, it is true, you get what you pay for. The 6 star lines like Regent, Crystal, and Silver Seas will spoil you like you can't believe. But you do pay for it.

If you are just starting out cruising I would recommend Royal Caribbean. I believe they offer the best value for a lower to mid priced line. Better than Princess.

I've been on all of them and my favorite is Regent. But everybody has to make the decision based on needs, price and itinerary.

    Have fun.

  2. No, but I have been on Ecstacy at a Carnival.

  3. We had very memorable time, and nice cruising experience in ecstasy . But you have to go into the cruise with the mind set that you can enjoy even as the cost appears very high sometimes. Its a fun  cruise and nice idea if you want to get away from things. If you are accustomed to luxuries you will enjoy more.Food,services,housekeeping,entertai... everything is fine.Mix up with people and have fun.

  4. Yes, we had our family reunion on the Ecstasy last summer.

We took 19 guests, 14 of which were first time cruisers.

The Ecstasy is an older ship, circa 1991 but it was re-furbed in 2006.

It is a nice entry-level cruise ship.  The maintenance staff stayed busy with plumbing issues during our cruise.

It is not an elegant ship but it is fun, especially for families.  Our kids enjoyed the mini-golf course and the 24-hour pizzeria.

The cruise director was fun and there was always something going on.

There is a "topless" deck.  But my brothers went up there and the only "topless" people up there were old, fat bald guys!

We always enjoy Progresso. It is fun to shop in the open air markets.  Better prices in Progresso than Cozumel.

Due to the hurricane damage, you have to tender (take a ferry) from the ship to the dock in Cozumel.

Depends on the cruise experience you are looking for.  Going out of Galveston, you also have the option of the Royal Caribbean.  However, I did not think the RC was worth the extra money over the Ecstasy.  We are taking the Conquest in March.

    Overall, this rates a "good".
