  1. lets start out by saying, i've worked in hotels for a few years - and recently graduated UNLV's hotel management program with a BS in hotel management.  i always loved hotels, but then there were the few that left you feeling icky and out of place... which always leads to insomnia and anxiety about what you're going to do the next night, or the next trip, etc.

most hotels have ratings online.  i'd highly suggest you check them out (reviews of what past guests have said) before you stay.  that way, you'll know what to expect, and how to get what you want and what you need once you get there.  people are brutally honest, and will share the bad stories before the good... so any anxieties you may have will hopefully be solved before even getting there.

also... the staff should be more than willing to do whatever it is to create a 'home away from home' for you.  if there is ANYTHING that they can do.. let them know!  that's what they are there for.  to make YOU comfortable. if you're not comfortable, than they are not doing their job!! (this includes bedding  needs if that is an issue)

if you feel comfortable bringing all your own stuff, then do it! you can even ask them to have all of the bedding removed before you even get there.. that way you won't be afraid to find anything in between the sheets and you can see that the mattress is clean before even putting your own bedding on it. not too sure how you feel about sleeping pills, but even a benadryl or tylenol pm will help you to relax, and at least fall asleep.. so that your anxieties won't ruin your trip!!

and all in all, like they say.. you get what you pay for.  if you want something a lil nicer, or newer, spend a couple extra bucks to get it because it really can make or break your trip.  good luck, and enjoy it!!!  i would love to go away for even a night!!  :)
