I want to take a vacation to India but I have a few questions and would appreciate anyone who actually lives or has been to India that can answer?

1)What is the max time a foreigner can stay in India?

2)What is the reaction to a U.S citizen? Do they hate us like 90% of the world does?

3)How much should I bring in US dollars to have a nice time? What is the average cost of a hotel and food so I can get an idea?

4)What is the best place to go and do they have tourist guides? Where can I go to find one?

  1. Hi, India is a big country with avery big and warm heart. Here everyone love and respects others irrespective of their cast, creed, s*x, religion and nationality. Should u require assistance mail at sumit_nanda@hotmail.com. He is a very helpful person.

  2. Hi Friend,

This is answer for your 4th Question. If you visit India please dont miss Karnataka state. You can visit places like Bangalore, Mysore, Srirangapattana, Biligiri Ranga Hills, Hampi, Belur and Halebid, Shravanabelagola, Sivasamudram, Jog Falls, Agumbe etc.,

For more details please visit: http://www.karnatakaholidays.com

  3. You can get visa information to India from the Indian Embassy website.  In short, you can get from a 30day visa up to a 5yr visa, but if you plan to stay more than 60days, you will have to register.

I found that most of India likes Americans, but they often think we are British first.  Once that misunderstand is straightened out, the reaction to us is usually better, especially since Americans aren't a large portion of their tourist population whereas Europeans are.

One thing I did make sure of was that I didn't keep more than about  $125usd cash (for gifts, food, etc) because many of the cities have banks with ATMs which I used to replace my cash whenever I got too low.  Most hotels, larger stores and restaurants accept credit/debit cards, especially in tourist areas.

  4. India is a vast country. To visit the major tourist destinations you need a minimum of 20-30 days.

In India we say 'atithi devo bhava' that means we treat the guests as gods. So you dont worry about the kind of reaction. We welcome you whole heartedly.

For how much dollars you should bring....

It depends... if you dont mind staying in budget hotels then you might just require to spend about 30-50$ per day on accommodation, 10$ for your meals & and another 25-30$ on transportation.

If you wish to have luxury then sky is the limit. We got excellent palaces to stay, luxury trains to travel & authentic restaurants to dine.

The most important places to visit in India are:

North: Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Manali, Corbett etc

    Central: Khajuraho, Sanchi, Varanasi

South: Bangalore, Mysore, Hampi, Cochin, Thekkady, Kumarakom, Mahabalipuram etc

    West: Mumbai, Goa, Ajanta-Ellora

East: Bhuvaneshwar, Konark, Puri, Kolkata, Darjeeling etc
