Vacation in Oahu??????

Question

Anyone have reccomendations on the best oceanfront hotels and resorts? I was looking at Hotel Turtle Bay but I want to look at more.

Shoots, nothing anywhere near the Turtle Bay, geographically speaking, and not much in terms of luxury. Plus, you gotta wonder how much longer that place will be there. It's had its financial troubles, but you can't beat the location.

Closer to town, you'd probably want to look at Kahala Resort, which locals still call the Kahala Mandarin. It's where Jack Lord--the Hawaii 5-0 actor--used to live, though in the title sequence they showed his character on top of the Ilikai.

In Waikiki, check out the New Otani Kaimana Beach, the Moana Surfrider, and Hilton Hawaiian Village. On the far side of Pearl Harbor from Honolulu, Ka Olina is a new resort that is supposed to be pretty posh.

For my honeymoon, we stayed at the JW Marriott Ihilani Resort.  It was AMAZING!!  We went up to Turtle Bay, and it was nice, but a much bigger resort.  Ihilani is on it's own lagoon, where you can snorkel (we saw turtles 2 of the 3 days we snorkeled).  If you are looking for a place to go with kids or that is a bit bigger,I'd say Turtle Bay or Waikiki are nice, but if you want a calm, relaxing place, I'd say go near Ko Olina (where Ihilani is).  The sunsets are amazing, you can feel comfortable leaving your stuff on the beach without someone watching it, and it is beautiful!!!

We stayed for 8 days, 7 nights and weren't ready to leave!  Also, it is just a short drive (like 5 min.) to Kapolei (sp) where they have all kids of restaurants & a Safeway.  We drove around pretty much the entire island in one day.  

If you want a good book, I highly recommend Ohau, Revealed- It was SO helpful!  It had lots of the main highlights with some "off the beaten path" ideas, which were fun!

Turtle Bay is the most exclusive and expensive, but everyone I know tries to get the Marriott Resort in the Ilihani area.
