Cebu City

Enjoy the shops, food, nightlife and spend a day or two touring the historical sites. Go up to the Taoist Temple in Beverly Hills to catch a bird's eye glimpse of the City. Go to Mactan Island and do water sports or spend a day at the Shangrila Resort. Go Party in the evening!

bohol is good for nature and scenery with the tarsier sanctuary (the world's smallest primates) near corella, the chocolate hills near carmen, and the floating restaurants on the loboc river. and you can also visit the site of the blood compact near tagbilaran

what's wrong with beaches? the beaches on panglao (a short trip across the bridge from bohol) are beautiful

The whole country is a vacation paradise.  Those tourist traps you mentioned are the LAST place I'd go.  Go south to Visayas  there's plenty to see and do and the people are different there. Try it.

Sagada is nice, it's more of nature and mountain caves, lots of foreigners love it there, or go for a climbing and hiking trip in Davao Mt. Apo.

If you want to experience a different kind of city life, try the bargain shopping at Divisoria, all kinds of stuff that are cheap and unique, beware of theft though.  Visit Ongpin to see some old china town structures and go to Quiapo for another bargain spree, then proceed to Intramurous for old spanish structures.

There's a lot to do here in Philippines, depends on what you want though.  Have fun!
