Ok so a couple of friends and myself are planning to head to toronto in the summer for a few reasons, and we had some questions if anyone know the answers...which im sure someone does! (by the way we're american)

1) as of right now, you dont have to have a passport to get over to canada and back, right? not sure how that works

2) since we're all 19 and 20, we have no problems buying liquor or beer or whatever, right? theres no weird thing cause were americans we cant buy it or something is there... just checking!

3) whats some cool things to see in toronto? we have a few but we want to hear what other people think is cool!

4) whats good cheap hotels but that are still ok for a few of us?

Thanks!!

  1. You should take your passport as proof of i.d anyway. Theres a few brilliant comedy clubs, the laugh resort and the second city. I dnt know if your interested in museums and stuff but if you are try the royal ontario. You gotta go to the science centre too, that was great fun. It's mostly for kids but my 25 year old boyfriend had a great time there. Most places you stay anyway will give you a list of places to go and see

  2. A must see in Toronto is the Tornto Zoo. The CN Tower is pretty cool as well as spendind a day just walking around downtown and taking in the people, shops, architecture, and culture. Its a very neat city, enjoy!

And yes, you are legal here in Canadaland.

  3. Drinking age in Ontario is 19, but beware: many of the fake ID's out there are cheap rip-offs of american state drivers lisences(notably MI, NY, IN, OH, CT). I would recommend having something else on you that is unquestionable American.(such as a credit card from an american institution). When purchasing from Alcohol retailers, they will have a book to properly identify the characteristics of your respective identification

  4. 1. I believe right now you don't have to have a passport if you travel to Canada by land, but you do need photo identification and proof of your US citizenship. Flying requires a passport. Here's information for visitors to Canada: http://www.cbsa.gc.ca/travel-voyage/visi...

    2. You can buy alcohol in Ontario if you are 19+.

    3. If I answer this question I'll be here for another hour and my brain hurts too much right now to do that. If you click on the "Toronto" category on this site you'll find other people who asked this question. Read the answers.

    4. Student backpacker hostels. Global Village Backpackers is a famous one: http://www.globalbackpackers.com/ It's half a city block away from some classy bars on King West for the older crowd, and the club district. A friend of mine stayed at the HI hostel: http://www.toronto-youth-hostel.com/2/to... and he was happy with his experience.Or Couch Surf--sleep on peoples' couches during your stay, for free: http://www.couchsurfing.com/ Check out http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/sub/ to sublet for a period of a  time ranging from a day to months. They are usually more affordable than hotel rooms.

  5. Ok - first, you are correct about the not needing a passport.  A birth certificate is suffice, but to be sure and have that safe peace of mind I recommend you look on our customs website (www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca).

2 - You will have no problems buying alcohol here.  Even if your id's are american - they are legit.  Don't worry about people thinking they are fake or whatever.  Most beer or liquor stores have the scanning machine to see they are legit.  Although, I don't know if they can scan US ones??  However, if they are real - what should you have to worry about?

3-  The toronto zoo is cool, I would check out a Blue Jays game (but im a sports fan).  The CN tower is kind of cool, but can be very very busy.  There is also Toronto FC soccer, depending on when you visit the C.N.E might be going on (a big exhibition type fair thing).

The ROM is nice, if you are into museums.  The science center...  I dunno there is just so much to do.

Cool clubs to check out - maybe the Phoenix or The Guvernment are cool to me.

4 - I always stay at Comfort Suites when I'm there for work.  It's like 2 mins from the Eaton Centre/Yonge St., the rates are fair and it's a very nice hotel with pool, hot tub etc.
