Vacation to Cabo, Mexico?

My friend and I may take a one week vacation to Cabo this summer. We live in Southern Calfornia, around the SD area. We go to Tijuana once a month or so to party and that is within short driving distance. We were thinking about renting a car and driving but my dad doesn't recommend it, he thinks we should fly.

My question is, fly or rental car how much do you think a decent one week trip to Cabo would cost the American tourist? Any answer worthwhile definitely gets the 10 points..thanks!

  1. That trip down to Cabo is 2 days hard driving...over 1000 miles.  you would probably be happier flying or taking a bus.    If you only have one week...fly...or you will use up 2 days going and another 2 days returning.

  2. If you have the time and guts to drive all the way here, will be a trip not to forget.

I will recommend you travel no more than 8 hours during daylight. It will take you 3 days that way. Stop in every gas station, to relax, eat and do your things.

The driving is in a two lines road, and trailers all time, don´t get panic. The views are excellent, have your camera handy.

If you decide to go for it, the rental will cost you about $400 a week with all insurances and tax, add about $300 for gas, maybe $500 for lodging and $500 for food, drinks and extras (for two people).

I will say a package deal will be about the same cost, you will have more time in Cabo for party, and be another tourist.

The trip is hard, but more satisfying, all depends what are your interests.

    Enjoy Cabo

  3. Hi, without knowing a little bit more information, it would be hard to tell you how much it would cost, because it just wouldn't be accurate.

Do you have any particular dates in mind? I can tell you exactly how much it would cost you if you rent a car and book a hotel or if you do decide to take your dad's advice and fly. (generally speaking, you save more money when you book a vacation package--air & hotel).

So lemme know the dates you're considering, what type of car (i.e. economy, suv, convertible etc.) and also if you have any preference on airlines (and if u are considering economy tickets?) or u can take a look at my website: http://www.ultratravelsearch.com

You can customize your trip any way you want to make it fit your budget. You can check out reviews and see pictures. As you know pictures are worth a 1,000 words. So I highly suggest you take a look for yourself.

  4. Hola!  I live and work here in Cabo.  Boy are you in for a good time if you come down.  Tijuana has nothing on Cabo as far as partying goes!

If you book a last minute flight with Alaska Air, you are looking at about $250 round trip....stand-by might even be as cheap as $99.  Check it out.  You'd waste alot of time if you were to drive down...its about 2 days each way.  Plus you also have to pay extra insurance in Mexico to drive down here.   Way cheaper to fly.

The resorts are all pretty expensive, but you can find a room for about $60 a night, and they might even throw in breakfast.  Summer is technically off season...but because all the Californians come down here in the summer, we don't really have seasons anymore, we are busy all year!  Spring break is nuts.

Since you are from Southern Cali, then I don't have to warn you about how hot it gets in Cabo during the summer.  Not a big deal for you....but for people who come from the north, it just about kills them.  We can reach 52 c...what is that in F?  I think 125 or 130?  Nothing a dip in the ocean can't fix.

    Have a great time!
