i am going to ireland next year, not on any guided tour but also not driving myself- so i am looking for a good book that tells not only places to see, but also about public transportation (also, any personal experiences would be welcome!!) thanks!!

  1. My favourite is the DK Eyewitness Travel Guide Ireland. It's accurate with its transport information, has the best highlights and has pretty pictures, so it becomes a souvenir once your holiday is over.

Lonely Planet and the Rough Guide are very Dublincentric and often leave out places that are worth visiting.

Depending on your experience as a traveller and what your interests are, different books will suit you. Check out customer reviews of different guide books on amazon.

Also check out www.discoverireland.ie  - it's the official tourism website and has the most up to date information.

If you write to your local Irish embassy, they will send you heaps of information on travelling in Ireland.

If I were you. I would concentrate on one or two regions, like:

    1. Cork & Kerry

    2. Clare, Galway and Mayo

    3. Sligo, Donegal, Fermanagh

You could fit that in with a few days in Dublin & Wicklow.
