I am looking into possibly vacationing in Jamaica. But I heard from family that's traveled there that there was a lot of bad/violent areas there. I'm not sure if I should be concerned cause I know that no matter where I travel there is always going to be a bad area. The hotel I'm looking into is The Ritz-Carlton Rose Hall, Jamaica. Should I be really be concerned?

  1. In Jamaica the hotels are some of the safest places to be in. Plus your a tourist no one will disturb you. Every one is nice to the tourist

  2. Don't let concern stop you. If you want to go, then go. I would love to go to Jamaica myself. Be brave. Sure some parts of Jamaica are supposed to be really dangerous but you probably won't go there and even if you did who cares? There are a lot of hustlers and things in Jamaica in the tourist areas trying to sell you stuff but that's not dangerous just annoying.

  3. it sounds like the white witch of rose hall spooky. You should stay away from the first city and go to the second city,i heard that they have beautiful beaches and water fronts, good food, maybe too spicy for my liking but Ocho-Rios,Negril and Montego Bay sounds like fun, bring me back some ackee and some rum cream, what about the sweet coconut water, enjoy, Irie Man everything cris,Yeh Man,walk good Jah Love.[i dont think thats english but when in Rome do like the Romans do.

  4. im a single female and i went to mobay last year. Stayed all inclusive but had to get out of the hotel and see the real jamaica. Didnt regret it.Just watch out for the hustlers and politely say no thanks when they hassle you. going to ochi rios in november not all inclusive, cant wait!

  5. No need to be particularly concerned. The usual safety precautions (recommended for ALL international tourists in Jamaica or elsewhere) should be fine. Ask the front desk for info before going on the roads. Get safety advice from trusted locals.  Know what trouble looks like and know what to do if you think you are in trouble (police, fire, hospital, etc).

There are some dangerous spots in Jamaica, but following these basic safety rules IS ENOUGH to help you avoid them. Don't flaunt expensive gadgets, jewelry or other valuables. Jamaica isnt the only country where common sense should prevail in that regard.

The point is, be a good tourist. You will be fine.
