Question:

Vacationing in Playa Del Carmen in June, any tips???

My girlfriend and I will be staying at the Grand Coco Bay in Playa Del Carmen for 8 nights in June. I have never been to an all inclusive resort, or to the Caribbean, so I am not really sure what to expect. How is the Grand Coco Bay resort? Is there a lot to do there, or should I plan on spending a lot of time in town? How are the bars near there? We are in our late 20's, and are looking for a relaxing vacation with plenty of beach, booze and sun. Any tips/experiences would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Go scuba diving in Cenotes. It is worth it.

  2. The beaches are great in that area.  Plan a day to go to the ruins at Tulum and also a day on the island of Cozumel.  Both trips are worth the time.

  3. enjoyyy

    ano go to MAMITASSS BEACH...

    ;-)

  4. Playa Del Carmen...I have never been to the Grand Coco Bay, but I have a few tips. My timeshare is the Mayan Palace and I'm very familiar with the area.

#1 Exchange your currency into Pesos at any one of the currency exchanges along 5th Avenue (the main street in Playa). You will get a better exchange rate than you will at your resort. Exchange any leftover pesos back into dollars at your bank after you get home.

#2 Only take what money you need into town and keep your wallet in your front pocket where it can't be taken easily by pick pockets.

#3 Take the ferry to Cozumel

#4 Make friends with another couple so you have another guy to get your back when partying downtown at night.

#5 You can get a 4-6 hour unlimited drinks at Senor Frogs for about $30. Most resorts have tours there by bus. After that, there is always an all night party at the Blue Parrot.

#6 Don't pay a taxi. $2 will get you a seat on the Playa Express. it's a van that goes between Cancun and Playa. If you're travelling during the daytime, save your money and avoid the taxis.

#7 If your trip is not all inclusive, buy your alcohol and some food at the Wal mart in Playa. You can walk there from the shops downtown.

#8 Buy Cuban cigars in a sealed box with a tamper proof seal across the lid. Don't buy them from people on the street.

#9 You can talk anybody down on their prices. Sometimes like 500%. Don't be afraid to barter. Offer very low and walk away. You can get some awesome deals if you're not a tool.

#10 Use the concierge at your hotel to make travel arrangements like Scuba, Mayan Ruins, etc. They will make sure you don't get ripped off.

#11 If you intend to buy drugs, I had my best luck with cab drivers. They leave you in the cab while they run in and buy what you want. Just say "Coca Yee Nah?". Use it sparingly, it's not the bullshit stomped on c**p we get in the U.S.
