the dappi+lc (UK )was vaccine was given to my 2lb puppy earlier today, and now she is yelping in agony when touched lightly .I cant find any side effects listed over web, and vet never said watch for her being off colour off her food and tender all over. Has anyone elses puppy had this reaction , it was 8hrs ago she had her 1st vaccination , does it get better?

It is distressing when she spins around and looks at me with scared eyes, as if Ive actually hurt her , as she is associating her pain source as being petted, and it must be very sore. she has drank water but not eaten her dried food. less lively and more sleepy

thanks

  1. I would make a phone call and ask the vet if she is having a bad reaction to the vaccination. She may be sore at the injection site, but she should not be experiencing that much pain.

  2. yes it is, actually, my 3 month old puppy had her last set of shots, i could stoke her and she was not in external pain, however she didn't drink a lot and barely ate, she also had diarrhea and it got really bad to the point it was watery and she was really dehydrated, so she had to spend the night at the vets, this also happened again but she was didn't have to go to the vets, try giving her wet food mixed with dry food and not a lot it might put her off eating it, make sure to put a lot of water in the food to it's so important to keep her hydrated.

    hope it helps

  3. Some reaction isn't uncommon, but your vet should have warned you of any and all possible reactions and told you to call if she experiences any that seem severe.  Being quieter and sleepy isn't serious and she's drinking so that's really good.  Being sore at the sight of the injection is common and with her being so tiny, that could be why she seems sore all over.

I'd say if she's not better by morning, or still not eating, give your vet and call and let them know and ask for their recommendation.

  4. If this is her first vaccination, then maybe she is having a reaction to it.  She should not be changing colors though.  The injection site is usually sore and doesn't tend to bother them that much.  If she is avoiding food I would definitely consult the vet that gave it to her.

  5. Its not unusual and the number of people that want you to take the dog to the vets on here is unreal

Dog get a sniffle and their advice take em to the vets

The vaccine is a solution that contains a mild quantity of the diseases

The Idea is for the solution to be in such a weakened state that the dogs antibodies will be able to defeat the mild intrusion of the disease. allowing the dog to develop an immunity should it be attacked by a properstrengthh of the disease i;e come into contact with another dog that has it

So yes your dog is in pain. Yes it is going to have a very mild form of the disease for the next couple of days .Yes it is going to want to sleep. When your poorly you do.The drinking is a good sign cos its not going to dehydrate

The vet will have taken the dogs weight and this determines the quantity of vaccine solution to inject in the dog. Its unlikely he/she has made a mistake. Keep an eye on it for about 3 days it will be fine and stop worrying.

  6. Definitely worth a call to your Vet - or even take her back in if you are really concerned.

  7. I agree with Laurie you should contact the vet. I used to work at a clinic and the vet used to say contact if pet under the weather. The soreness is usual as pups shriek at the least pain ...it's part of their defence strategies. My husky pup shrieked as if she was being murdered when my cat lightly wacked her with his claws in this morning

  8. Yes it is normal. Just comfort your puppy, try not to touch that spot, my puppy recently went through the same thing, and it will go away after a few days, it is a sore muscle... She will be ok. If the pain goes all over her body though I would call your vet.

  9. Our puppy was very lathargic after her first vaccination however it went away after 24 hours.  It's not common, but does happen...she may be having an allergic reaction to the vaccine, our vet warned us that this may occur.  I would definitely call your vet and ask for advice.
