  1. Actually it is a normal characteristic of new carpet (especially cut pile). Polyester carpet often is worse.

(Polyester is a common choice for new homes because of its low cost and great new appearance)

It is normal for nylon to do it as well.

I have seen carpets do it for a full year and according to an IICRC Master Carpet Inspector it is normal. (they do many warranty claims for carpet mills) http://www.iicrc.org

  2. New cut pile carpet will do that for a while.

    Could be 1-3 mo's

Just make sure you clean out the hoses of the vac so it will do a good job everytime.

If the problem persists, there could be a defect in the carpet.

  3. i would call the company you bought the home and see if there was any warranty to the home if so get them replaced

  4. There are 2 types of yarns.  Continuous filament and staple yarns.  With filament yarns, each individual fiber (which is twisted into the strands of yarn) is very long.  With Staple yarns, the individual fibers are tiny short pieces.  With a cut pile carpet, many of these short pieces are at the edge of the cut pile, and are loose.

Generally, these are vacuumed out in 3-4 weeks.  Until then, expect to fill the vacuum every time.

Staple yarns are generally softer than filaments.

Staple yarns are much less expensive, therefore often used in new construction.

Most Polyester is a staple yarn.  Nylon can be either filament or staple.  Nylon is a superior and more expensive fiber.

  5. Uhh, missy this normal for new carpets. Just "suck" it up, and keep vacuuming.

  6. Brand new carpeting is like that. It will take a while for it to stop shedding all that extra stuff, so just vacuum a bit more often and don't worry about it.
