Question:

Vacuum cleaner losing suction NEED ADVICE

I've been using a hoover vacuum cleaner for about 5 years or so and now, for about a few months, it's been losing it's sucking power - making it very difficult for me to clean the house when it barely picks anything up. I tried taking the thing apart and cleaning it but so far it has done nothing. I don't know anything about vacuums, but one of my friends insisted that I should change the filter. What do you guys think I should do?

  1. Vacuum cleaners are pretty simple machines..  basically a motor that turns a fan blade that gives you the suction and a belt connected to the other side that turns the brush roller... if you aren't getting suction and your bags empty then your fan blade might have come loose and isn't turning to create suction... you may need to tighten the fan blade or replace the blade if it's damaged

  2. change the filter this will solve your loss of vaccum problem

  3. You mention washing off the excess whatever, in the canister, and emptying the hose???   The hose shouldn't need to be emptied, there should be a bag or a dirt cup that should dumped when it 's full.  If  your hose is getting filled with dirt, then that's part of the problem, it must be plugged or at least partially plugged.  If the fan had broken loose on the motor shaft, you'd hear it making an awful racket.   The filters on the machine should be changed at least every 6 months.   More info would be a great help in getting better answers.

  4. Take a close look for a separate filter,it may need cleaning. My dirt devil is that way.

    My Best

  5. check the beater brush is it turnung, my vacuum did samething hair and threads and such kept the bruch from turning, also mke sure the brush belt is on

  6. Can we assume that you empty and clean the filter after each use? If not, how often?

If your vacuum is 5 years old and the filter has never been cleaned or changed that is probably your problem.

Another possibility to check is to be sure the hose is not clogged. Test it by disconnecting the hose and dropping a marble or some other small object in one end and seeing if it rolls all the way through to the other end. Of clogged plunge it using a rubber hose until clear.

Some vacuums have a control setting which transfers power from the main floor vacuum nozzle to an auxiliary hose used for cleaning furniture and other non-floor areas. If this setting is on the suction power will be transferred and you will not have floor suction.

    Hope some of these help.

  7. I'd check to make sure the belt is engaged. Had the same problem

2 weeks ago and that was it.
