Vadim Novoselov, Julia Zapolskaya march into second stage of qualifying round – Polish Open Update
Mixed Doubles partners Vadim Novoselov and Julia Zapolskaya of Russia had a great start in the Polish Open as they cleared their first hurdle of the qualifying round on March 21, 2013.
They locked horns with the team of Dzmitry Saidakou and Anastasiya Cherniavskaya as this encounter lasted just for 18 minutes.
The Russian campaigners established a strong grip by winning first set with 21-14 margin and then served notice of their supremacy by registering 21-16 score in the second set.
On the other hand, the opposing shuttlers could not forge a fruitful chemistry and bid adieu to this international tournament.
The battle heated up when Vadim and Julia launched a brisk attack and gained an early advantage in no time.
They kept on playing with an authoritative approach and doubled their total by ruling the court in next couple of rallies. They finished first half of the set with a respectable score position and resumed their campaign with a psychological edge in the latter
part of the game.
After the one-minute break, Dzmitry and Anastasiya showed some spark and narrowed the gap on the points table.
However, they could not carry this momentum in the final moments and lost this crucial set with a huge deficit of seven points.
Meanwhile, the Russian duo showed consistency in its performance and won the opening game with scoreboard flashing 21-14 total.
The next game was also played in similar manner as the partnership of Vadim and Julia looked good. Both partners did not show any sign of confusion and played impeccable badminton.
Initially, they played with a cautious approach and allowed their competitors to remain close on the points table.
The Mixed Doubles experts of Belarus could not capitalise this opportunity and put in a below par performance.
Dzmitry and Anastasiya made many mistakes in the establishing rallies and jeopardised their chances of success. Though, they finished first half of the set with a decent margin but then few back-to-back blunders hit them hard.
Vadim and Julia did not squander this opportunity and locked the honour with a favourable score of 21-16.
Now they will lock horns with Patryk Szymoniak-Edyta Tarasewicz to gain access to the main round of Polish Open.
