Question:

Vaginal Birth After Cesarean...?

I'm not pregnant. I don't know anyone looking at this option.

I just want to know if you looked for a Dr. who would do one, if you even considered it, if you WOULD consider it *or* If you had one... what was your experience (Dr. search, family battles about it, moral or religious views, how it might of or did effect the baby) I am even interested in a guys POV if there was a guy brave enough to open this message.

I KNOW THAT'S A LOT... but reading up on it is not nearly as helpful as hearing it from the horse's mouth, so to speak.

Thanks!

  1. I had a VBAC with my 2nd child. My first was an elective Cesarean due to a placenta previa.

I didn't have to look for a Dr, my obstetrician was very supportive of my wanting one, and encouraged me all the way.

It was never a big issue, my wanting one. Everyone was supportive of my decision to try one. My son was born healthy, and there were no major problems throughout the labor or delivery. I bled a little more than usual, however that was it.

I am so pleased that I gave it a go. It was amazing, a much better experience than my Cesarean. My third was an emergency Cesarean, so I am glad I got to have a natural birth.

  2. I had a c-section and I feel like I was cheated out of my birthing experience.  Long story short...I think my doctor wanted the insurance money and if I had to do it all over again...I would have told him no.  So, to answer your question....when I have another child, I am going to look for a doctor who is willing to work with me to have a normal delivery.  I know they are out there and it's allowable if I wait long enough.  I just want to be able to experience it regardless how painful!!

  3. I'd love to have a VBAC if I conceive my second child. However, the small town we just moved to is pretty anti-vbac, the hospital won't even try it with all the risks, no matter how long it's been. Most times it's the facility and not the doctor that makes or breaks the decision. In europe, they aren't even allowed to try vbac most of the time, there is too much risk for the mother.

I had a c-section with my daughter, and never had a single contraction, so sometimes I still look at her 20 months later and I'm just amazed she's really mine, although I had problems bonding with her until she was about a year old.

    Good luck!

  4. I've never had one personally, but I have heard about several women who have had a VBAC.

  5. I had a c-section with my twins and would not consider VBAC if I were to have another child.  My mom had a friend who did VBAC against her OB's advice and did not make it through, she left a 5 yr old and a newborn behind.  I always think of her and would not want to put myself at risk like that.  Lots of women do it and come out ok, but since I knew someone personally who did not have a good outcome it's not an option I would ever consider.

  6. I nearly had to have a cesarean with my son and talked about VBAC with my Ob and he bluntly said that if I had a cesarean I would be having another if I had a third child. I opted for no cesarean, the increased risks are the scar tissue rupturing and mum bleeding out during birth and if the women gets pregnant not long after having the baby and cesarean (with in 2-6 months) there is a chance of the uterus rupturing early while growing and stretching for the baby and then you can lose both mum and baby. But it has been done and quite successfully without any trouble as long as the mum is monitored properly and she has given her cesarean scar time to heal well. The reason I didn't go ahead with the cesarean the first time (which was supposed to be because my son could have been very large) was because I couldn't have a VBAC if I had a third. The recovery time for a vaginal birth is very quick and even if you have stitches you have less trouble with them most of the time than cesarean stitches and staples. I do believe that it is each to their own and never would try to tell a woman how she should give birth.
