CSKA Moscow striker, Vagner Love, has stressed that the Moscow-based club have become stronger and lavished praise on his side after the completion of a successful campaign which includes Russian Premier League title and the Russian
Cup.
“CSKA had a good season. So, our opponents will try to make an enormous effort to rehabilitate him after a poor season. We, in turn, must be prepared to retain the league title next season,” the UEFA Cup winner was quoted as saying.
The Moscow-based club finished at the top of the league table, two points ahead of arch rivals Zenit St. Petersburg in the standings. CSKA, meanwhile, managed to claim Russian Cup after defeating Anzhi Makhachkala on penalty shoot-outs.
Leonid Slutsky’s men still have a chance to add another trophy if they win the Super Cup against the St. Petersburg club at Rostov-on don next month.
Love, who made an emotional return to the Moscow-based club from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Flamengo-c39361, said that he has seen significant improvement at Luzhniki stadium and credited the entire side after a successful season.
The fact that CSKA signed decent players during the last two transfer windows makes Love think that they can retain the league title with the same squad regardless of making any move this summer.
The Armeytsy managed to complete land mark signing during the last two years such as Pontus Wernbloom, Mario Fernandes, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rasmus-Elm-c30628 and Ahmed Musa, who played much of the last season as a lone striker in absence of injured Seydou
Doumbia and Tomas Necid.
There is little arguing to the statement that Love’s return helped CSKA win silverware this season. The Brazilian striker scored five goals in nine league appearances after returning to Russia last winter.
Love, meanwhile, has a chance to become CSKA’s all time top scorer should he score 12 more goals next season. The 29-year-old has scored 123 goals in total (84 - in the championship of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Russia-c2991, 8 - in the Cup of Russia, 30 - in
the European Cup, and 1 - in the Super Cup Russia).
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Palmeiras-c40165 attacker can overtake Grigory Fedotov, who scored 134 goals in all competition for the Moscow-based club.
