Vague future of five Indian Hockey Players attending the WSH Ceremony
Once again the situation in the Indian Hockey exacerbated after the opening ceremony of the lucrative World Series Hockey (WSH) and created problems for five Indian players who donned the colours for the national squad and missed the camp to participate
in the event.
The acting head of the national training camp, namely SS Grewal, has barred the five players, who attended the media-launching of the annual league without the permission of the high-ups, to participate in the practice session until a clear reply from Hockey
India officials.
On the other side, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in clear words stated that they would not take action against those five hockey players, who partook in the WSH function without prior consent.
However, the assistant coach, SS Grewal, was strict in his stance saying that no player out of those five to continue training until the final position from the federation.
It is vital here to mention that five players including, Arjun Halappa, Sardara Singh, Prabhjot Singh, Sandeep Singh, and Adrian D’Souza opted to miss the practice session and attended the launching ceremony of WSH. Interestingly, four out of total five
players will be captains of the four chains.
World Series Hockey is a joint project of Indian Hockey Federation and Nimbus Communication scheduled to commence from December 15, 2011. It will be one of the few money-spinning hockey leagues in the world, which grabbed the attention of every hockey lover
across the globe.
The matter regarding the participation of five players will be finalised by the Hockey India which sought an inquiry report from Pargat Singh, the Chief of the Disciplinary Committee. It is worth mentioning here that Pargat Singh recommended in the report
that those five players should not be permitted to continue their practice.
He was quoted in the media saying, “This is indiscipline and highly condemnable. No player is bigger than the nation. My personal opinion is that strictest action should be taken against them. The final say will be with the ministry and HI executive board.”
On the other hand, the Union Sports Ministry also took a serious notice of the issue saying claiming that it was a clear violation of discipline. An official of the ministry quoted in the news reports saying that they would not tolerate the violation.
On the other side, some of the reports claimed that no major action would be taken against them, as the talks between Hockey India and Indian Hockey Federation are in final stage for the amalgamation. The ministry set the July 25, 2011 as the final ultimatum
for the both the bodies to settle the matters otherwise it would resolve the issue by themselves. If HI takes strict action against those players, the negotiations between the two warring factions could be jeopardised.
