A quarter-final match of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League was held between the Serbian side of Eczacibasi VitrA as well as Vakifbank TTelekom ISTANBUL of Turkey on February 2.
The contest was held in the Turkish city of Istanbul.
By the time that the match had ended, the defending champions of Vakifbank were able to assert themselves over the Serbians by bagging a 3-1 win.
The four-set long match kept the audience thrilled as both the teams played competitive volleyball and kept the score close throughout. The first two sets saw both the sides lock horns together in an intense battle but the Turkish squad managed to pull through
in the end of both frames.
The loss of the first two sets got the Serbians to put up a good fight in the third one and swing the match in their favour by making a win.
However, that was the only frame the Serbians could get their hands on in the match as the fourth one was secured by the Turkish that also got them the win at the following final set scores, 25-22, 25-21, 20-25 and 25-20.
The head coach of the winning team, Giovanni Guidetti, shared his jubilation in the following manner when the day had ended, “I am very happy because the team displayed some good Volleyball, especially in blocking. Our spirit was good as well but we are
just in the middle of nowhere. We do not celebrate that much yet because we still have to win also next week.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Eczacibasi squad, Lorenzo Micelli, expressed himself in the following manner after his team had lost the match, “Vakifbank played really well tonight and they deserved to win. However, with the golden set rule, we still
have our chances to make it to the 1/4 finals by taking the next game. We will be working hard up to there to get the right momentum.”
The player that was able to earn the honour of being the top scorer was Malgorzata Glinka of Turkey with 23 points.
