Vakifbank TTelekom Istanbul sweeps Kenya Prisons Nairobi: Volleyball news
The Vakifbank TTelekom Istanbul of Turkey competed against the Kenya Prisons Nairobi of Kenya on Wednesday, October 12. The match was a Pool A match of the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship that is currently taking place in Doha, Qatar.
The Turkish club was quickly able to hand out a defeat to the Kenyan club by winning three back to back sets. Not only did the Turkish manage to make a clean sweep over the Kenyans, they did so in a dominating fashion. The Kenyans were only able to put up
a bit of a competition in the second set. By the time the day reached its close, the Turkish were celebrating their smothering win at the following final set scores: 25-13, 25-17 and 25-10.
The coach of Vatifbank Ttelekom Istanbul club, Giovanni Guidetti, made the following comments at the press conference after the match had reached its close: “It was quite an easy match for us. My players have a lot of experience and are very technical. Some
of my players are the world's best players. Seeing Kenya Prisons' team spirit and their determination to win was a good lesson for us, and I would like to thank them for that.”
On the other hand, the coach David Lungaho of the losing team expressed himself by giving the following statements: “I would like to congratulate the Turkish team with their victory. They are incredibly strong and technical. I hope they can recover quickly
to be able to win tomorrow's match. My team is still very young, they are still developing.”
The first set of the match saw the Turkish take the lead with the coming of the first technical time out at 8-5 but they were able to increase the gap as the second technical time out came at 16-7. After that point, it was only a matter of time before the
Turkish were able to seal the deal on the opening set at 25-13.
The second set reached a tie at 8-8 and later on at 10-10 as well as 11-11. However, as the match progressed, Turkey was able to take the lead and secure the second set at 25-17. The third set also came easy and quickly at 25-10.
The recent win has enabled Vakifbank TTelekom Istanbul to be at the top of Pool A. This has gotten the Turkish club a bye into the semi-finals of the tournament where they will be facing the team that places second in Pool B. The other two teams that will
be competing in the semi-finals are Rabita Baku of Azerbaijan and Dominican Republic’s Mirador Santo Domingo.
