Vakifbank ttelekom ISTANBUL defeats RC CANNES by 3-0 – 2012 CEV Champions League
The Burhan Felek volleyball sports hall in the capital of Turkey, Istanbul, saw a first round match of the semi-finals of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women take place.
The contest between the two sides was played amongst Vakifbank ttelekom ISTANBUL of Turkey and the RC CANNES of France. The total number of spectators that came to cheer on the home side were 3,700.
It did not take long for the match to reach its close as the home team was able to make a clean sweep over their opponents at the following final set scores: 25-23, 25-21 and 25-11.
The head coach of the home team, Giovanni Guidetti, shared his views on the match in the following manner at the press conference conducted after its end, “I could not imagine we could have won with such a clear result. My team delivered a perfect performance
today, we did not make any mistakes and I am really satisfied.”
On the other hand, the captain of the Turkish squad, Sonsirma Kirdar, expressed her delight upon the win in the following manner, “We delivered a great job tonight but this is not the end yet. We have to play even better next week in front of a huge crowd
in Cannes. I am proud of being the captain of such a competitive team.”
The first set of the match saw the guests take the lead and extend their advantage till the first technical time out at 8-4. However, the home team was able to close in the gap at 8-7 and kept trailing close behind at 12-8. The match reached a tie at 20-20
after which the home team propelled themselves forward to bag the opening set of the game at 25-23.
After winning the first set, the home team started the second set of the game staying with confidence and kept the score almost level. The guests fell behind near the end of the set that enabled the home team to secure another win at 25-21. The loss of the
first two sets made the guests lose their morale which in turn made it easier for the home team to win the third set at 25-11.
