VakifBank TTelekom Istanbul sweeps Mirador Santo Domingo: FIVB Volleyball Club World Championship
VakifBank TTelekom Istanbul of Turkey went head to head with Mirador Santo Domingo of the Dominican Republic in a FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship match. The tournament is being hosted by Qatar, with the matches being held in Doha. It did
not take long for the match between the two sides to reach its close as the Turkish club was able to make a clean sweep over their opponents.
The first set of the match was completely dominated by the Turkish but the Dominican Republic put up some good competition in the second set of the match. However, as the frame reached its close, the Turkish club was able to march on ahead to bag a win.
The loss of the first two sets of the game did not do well for the confidence of the Dominican Republic club and they were smothered by the Turkish in the third set of the game. The final set scores stood at the following figures by the time the match reached
its close: 25-13, 25-19 and 25-14.
The coach of the vakifbank ttelekom Istanbul club, Giovanni Guidetti shared his feelings in the following manner at the press conference that was conducted after the match reached its close: “For being the first match in this big championship I think we
did well. The team was gathered a short time ago and I’m happy for the victory. I would like to congratulate the Dominican Republic team for having young players with a great future.”
On the other hand, the Mirador Santo Domingo coach, Wilson Sanchez, expressed his feeling by saying: “The Turkish team is one of the favorite teams to win this competition. Our players are young and they will be great players in the future.”
The first set of the game saw the vakifbank ttelekom take the lead at 9-5 and they were able to stick with the advantage until 19-12. The Dominican Republic squad could not do much to overtake the Turkish, who won the opening set of the game at 25-13.
The start of the second set saw the two teams progress quite evenly for the most part but as the frame reached its final stages, the Turkish were able to pull up ahead and win the set at 25-19. The third set was a fairly easy job for the Turkish who were
able to smother the Dominican Republic at 25-14.
The player that was able to secure the most points was Malgorzata Glinka of the vakifbank ttelekom Istanbul. Glinka was able to shine in the match by putting up a total of 18 points in the entire match. On the other hand, the most active player on the Mirador
Santo Domingo side was Jeoselina Rodriguez, who pulled up a total of 10 points in the entire match.
