Ramallets, Sadurni, Artola, Zubizarreta and the current Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes symbolise five generations of Barcelona goalkeepers. They all get along with each other well and share mutual admiration.
Keeping the goal for the Catalan Giants has always been a troublesome job, and few players have managed to hold down the position for a long periods of time. However, there are five glorious exceptions to that pattern, and these are the goalkeepers who have
made most all-time appearances for the Spanish club.
Many wonder what the secret to becoming a regular first choice stopper at Barcelona is. Legendary keeper Ramallets managed to provide his own recipe for success. He stated that looking after yourself and living for your job is the key. He said that to win
titles you need to be self-disciplined and a good sportsman.
Zubizarreta added to that comment by saying that he always had to be a passionate number one to understand football from the goal.” Victor Valdes spoke about “the goalkeeping species” while the former Barcelona man Sadurni was convinced that he needed something
special to perform for his side because playing for Barcelona was not like playing for an ordinary club.
All the three goal stoppers lived in very different periods, and told about how the things have changed over the past few years. Sadurni remembered how he had woollen gloves on that his mom knitted for him. He said that he would put them on if it rained despite
the fact that no one actually wore gloves during that time.
Artola said that a lot of things have changed since he played for Barcelona. He told how the clothes were different in the old days and whenever it rained, the shirt seemed to be very heavy.
After speaking to the old and legendary Barcelona goalkeepers, Victor Valdes told how they all said to him that they loved sand around the goal post. However, Valdes said that he loved grass and admitted that the game has changed a lot lately. He stated
how their shirts were heavy, hands were without gloves and it was hard to play in rain because they loved sand.
Victor Valdes enjoyed the fact that he got the chance to meet the legendary Barcelona goalkeepers. Moreover, he also spoke about the future of his key role in the Catalan squad. One of the legends admitted that he has been watching Barcelona play football in
recent times and he simply loves how the quality of the goalkeepers is increasing and he would love to see new and upcoming talent standing between the two poles.
