Valencia striker delighted with dream double against Rangers

Valencia striker Roberto Soldado says he was delighted to score twice against Scottish Premier League champions Rangers.

The sides met in the UEFA Champions League group stage at the Mestalla on Tuesday, 2 November – two weeks after Rangers held Valencia to a 1-1 draw at Ibrox.

Despite their good performance at the Mestalla, there was to be no repeat success for the Scottish giants in the return game. Instead, Valencia put themselves in a prime position to reach the last-16 stage of the tournament with a Soldado double and a third
goal from Tino Costa giving the Spanish side a 3-0 victory.

Spain cap Soldado was over the moon that his strikes helped his club to gain all three points.

The 25-year-old told reporters that: “It was a vital game because we knew we had to win so that we could depend on ourselves in this group. Now we have to do well against Bursaspor.
'Dreamed of playing a game like this'

“I had dreamed of playing a game like this since I joined Valencia, and finally the day has come. I’m especially glad I'm helping the team because we have had three games in which we did function.”

Valencia have now picked up seven points from their four games so far. They are three behind Manchester United, but as they are two points clear of Rangers with two games left to play, they can all but ensure their progression to the knockout stages with victory
over Turkish champions Bursaspor on 24 November.

Rangers, meanwhile, will have to beat United at Ibrox to put themselves back in the race to qualify for the next round.

Soldado joined Valencia in the summer from Getafe for a fee of ten million euros. His goals against Rangers took him to five from eleven appearances in total.
