With La Liga sides busy with their summer shopping, Villarreal are not far behind as they have secured the services of former Valencia goalkeeper, Cesar Sanchez, by offering him a one-year contract deal.
The 39-year-old has penned a one-year deal with Yellow Submarine that will keep him at El Madrigal until at least the summers of 2012. Sanchez, who will be inducted in to the Villarreal ranks at the start of next season, has joined Villarreal on a free transfer
after his contract with Valencia expired last month.
A statement on Villarreal’s official website states, “Villarreal and goalkeeper Cesar Sanchez have reached an agreement for the player to join on a free transfer. He will play under Coach Juan http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlos-Garrido-c8443 for the 2011/12 season.”
The former Real Madrid shot-stopper was left with no choice but to say good bye to Valencia after the arrival of prodigy, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-Alves-c11071. The 25-year-old Alves has been handed a four-year contract following his departure from the relegated Almeria.
Having kicked-off his professional career with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-c30728 Valladolid and having made his first-team debut at the end of 1991/92 season, Sanchez holds the record of being the most aged goalkeeper in the Spanish League. His experience is what might have forced Villarreal
to turn their attention towards the 39-year-old. The veteran goalkeeper, who played 15 matches for Los Che in the season ended, has featured for the likes of Real Madrid, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-Zaragoza-c40344 and Tottenham Hotspur before signing for Valencia in 2009.
Villarreal’s president, Fernando Roig, has also mooted the transfer speculations linking http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604.
“We have not had offers from any club. The player is on holiday but he has said to me that he wants to be here, that he is happy, and I also want him to stay with us. (Rossi is) a key player, an important player and we are counting on him and his goals for
next season.” Roig said.
Villarreal, who finished fourth in the recently concluded 2010/11 Spanish Primera Liga season, must be eyeing a top-three finish for the upcoming season.
