Valentin Zavadnikov’s Synergy Russian Sailing Team hits top podium of 2012 RC44 Cascais Cup
Opening day of the second leg of the 2012 RC44 Championship Tour, the 2012 RC44 Cascais Cup brought good news for Russia’s Synergy Russian Sailing Team skippered by Valentin Zavadnikov as they hit the top podium place of the overall standings at the end
of first day’s proceedings. The regatta is expected to become more exciting with the proceedings.
The event is in full swing at the Cascais, Portugal where the top match racing teams of RC44 Championship Tour are present to show their talent to the world. Currently the scoreboard is dominated by two Russian teams and one Portuguese sailing team that
made an outstanding start of the regatta coping with the weather conditions brilliantly.
The weather conditions to commence the sailing were ideal for a superb sail on the first day. The day began with strong winds that were blowing up to 20 knots which supported the sailors.
This year, the RC44 Tour has been joined by America’s Ed Baird which immediately made an effect on the performance and the results of Synergy Russian Sailing Team. The team finished on seventh position in the overall standings of the 2011 RC44 Championship
Tour’s match race rankings but this year they have come to the championship with great determination.
Russian team sailed impressively on the first day and topped the standings after winning all the matches. They took advantage of the mistakes of their opponents and fought back with two races wins. Baird and the crew are aiming to retain their top position
in the upcoming days of the regatta. After participating in two events so far, the Russian sailing team has clinched 11 points to lead the fleet.
