Valentina Artemyeva wins Women’s 100m breast-stroke gold: Day one – 2011 Swimming World Cup, Moscow
Two-time European champion, Valentina Artemyeva won a gold medal by devastating hopes of her opponents in the Women’s 100m breast-stroke playoff on foremost day of the 2011 Swimming World Cup in Moscow, Russia, on Tuesday, October 18.
Moscow is the third juncture of seven-stop World Cup series supervised by Federation Internationale de Natation, which is the international aquatics sport governing body.
The 24-year-old Artemyeva went full throttle in the short course 100m breast-stroke to ensure her top finish on the podium. She remained significantly stronger than her challengers in the start of the race.
With her powerful start and incredible strength, the Russian served notice of her talent as she completed her first half of the race in 31.48 seconds. She was followed by her team-member, Daria Deeva and China’s Ye Sun, who enveloped the equivalent distance in 31.60 and 31.80 seconds, respectively.
All three swimmers went wild in the second half of the swim, demonstrating their gruelling efforts to obtain the title of the event. Artemyeva faced severe competition from her rival, Ye, who pounced on her shoulder in the final-lap.
The Russian out-touched her competitor with a difference just 0.01 seconds as she hit the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 06.35 seconds for gold medal. Ye, who remained just a nail away from her former finisher, produced an effort of 34.56 seconds in the second half to post 1 minute and 06.36 second on the board for silver medal.
In the meantime, Deeva, who failed to sustain her second fastest spot of the swim, completed her final 50 metres of the race in 34.85 seconds to clock 1 minute and 06.45 seconds for bronze medal.
Artemyeva was delighted with her splendid effort in the 100m breast-stroke whereas the podium finishers collected their awards and accolades after the completion of session. After capturing her first gold medal of the World Cup, Artemyeva aroused the expectations of her fans by saying that she will work hard for upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
In addition, the meet will conclude on October 19 after the conclusion of all swimming events.
