Valentino Rossi, Cal Crutchlow attend launch of new Silverstone Wing – MotoGP news
MotoGP riders Valentino Rossi of Ducati team and Cal Crutchlow of Monster Yamaha Tech3 team attended the launch of Silverstone Wing.
Both the riders attended the launch along with representatives from the World Championship. The state-of-the-art pit, paddock and conference complex have been added to the circuit building.
The well-known circuit of Britain, Silverstone officially launched the new section and named it ‘Silverstone Wing’ in front of 800 guests present at the ceremony.
At the inauguration, there were many famous names present form the motorcycle racing history. Former World Champion for 500cc and 350cc, John Surtees OBE, Ron Haslam, the current rider for Monster Yamaha Tech3, Moto2 riders Scott Redding accompanied by Bradley
Smith, 125cc idles Danny Webb, Danny Kent and Harry Stafford with former MotoGP rider James Toseland were in attendance.
Managing Director of Silverstone Circuits Limited, Richard Phillips was also at the official unveiling ceremony and was pleased by the developments made for providing upgraded facilities to the motorsports.
He said, “Silverstone is now one of the best motor sport facilities in the world; and British motor sport has an iconic home that we can all be proud of. Building on last year’s successful Grand Prix track upgrade, The Wing is another great milestone in
Silverstone’s history.”
The interesting act was done by the nine-time MotoGP World Champion, Valentino Rossi who has recently earned his first podium finish in the Ducati racing leathers at Le Mans. The Italian was among the MotoGP representatives and made some laps of the circuit
on a Ducati 1198 machine.
After that, guests present at the occasion were given a tour of the new facilities which consist of newly built 41 garages, a race control building, a podium, media centre, hospitality section and VIP spectator zones.
The Air Asia British Grand Prix is due to take place on June 12, 2011 at the Silverstone Circuit, but the upcoming event which will bring MotoGP action alive after two weeks is the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya on June 5.
