Valentino Rossi delighted by a successful comeback
An absolute legend of MotoGP, Valentino Rossi made a remarkable comeback to the sport this weekend; Rossi was not expected to be back until the next season after breaking his leg in the Italian Grand Prix earlier this season. Rossi said that he is feeling strong and fit and as time goes by he will get even better.
Rossi resumed his season at Sachsenring circuit, and looked good throughout the race. The Yamaha rider looked like coming back to his best on a testing circuit. In the end he managed to get 4th spot which considering what he has been through was an amazing feat.
The former world champion had been advised by the doctors not to consider a comeback for at least 5 months; Rossi though defied the medical advice and made a remarkable earlier than expected recovery. The Italian was just a few hundred meters away from a podium finish.
Valetino Rossi and Casey Stoner had a long duel for the 3rd spot; Rossi looked right on his tail but went a bit too wide on the final corner. Stoner held his spot and managed to outrun his rival.
He said he was just overjoyed to be back on his bike and in the thick of things once again. He said that he did not expect to do so well and this is way more than what he expected while on the starting grid.
Rossi said that he still does feel some pain in his leg but it is getting better with every passing day. He added that by the time the next race comes along he will be almost a 100% and will go for nothing less than a win.
Valentino Rossi and Australian Casey Stoner have shared a fierce rivalry for years, and it looks as if it is still as severe as ever. Rossi said that if he would have been able to get the 3rd spot Stoner would have been whining.
Stoner, who fought tooth and nail with Rossi for the world title in 2007 and 2008, quickly responded and said that he appreciates the effort by Rossi, but media has just gone to town with it.
Stoner said that he only has some pain in his leg and other than that he is fine. The Australian who was quite bitter by the hype surrounding his rival said that Rossi is being hailed as if he won the race being crippled.
Stoner added that every rider goes through injuries; he said that Jorge Lorenzo, Dani Pedrosa and he himself have all been through injuries but no one mentioned them like this.
The MotoGP circuit now moves to Laguna Seca in the United States. Rossi won the same race in 2008, and is looking forward to once again testing himself at one of the most difficult circuits.
Rossi said that Laguna circuit is one of the most challenging ones and he always enjoys it a lot. He said that a test of Rider’s skill and stability of his bike always comes when the circuit is different than usual.
When Rossi was out injured and he was expected to make a return next season, there was immense speculation about the 9 time world champion once again opting to switch team. He refrained to comment on that and said he will know once the season is over. Rossi moved to Yamaha few years back because he wanted to test himself with a new bike and that is the same reason he is expected to make a switch once again in 2011.
While Rossi was recovering from his injury, his team-mate Jorge Lorenzo had been in great form and has made the top of the ladder on his own.
