Valeria Savinykh ousts fourth seeded Anastasija Sevastova in the 2nd round – Tashkent Open 2011
The second upset of the day was when Valeria Savinykh ousted fourth seeded Anastasija Sevastova during the second round of the Tashkent Open 2011. Surviving a mid match lapse of 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, on hard courts of Olympic School Tennis
Courts, Russian Savinykh secured a berth in the quarterfinal.
Opening the first set of the match was Valeria, who took a mini lead in the first two games by breaking her opponent. However, not wanting to be left out Sevastova broke back in the following game and in the fourth balanced the
score to 2-2 by holding her serve. In the following six games the two constantly rallied for every point but eventually went on to holding their serves until the score tied at 5-5. During the eleventh game Valeria held her serve and was one up, praying to
break her opponent in the twelfth game, she got her opponent to double fault and bagged the opening set with a 7-5 victory.
During the second set Valeria was first to serve and she took a lead of 3-0 in the first three games as she broke her adversary in the second game. Subsequently in the next three games, Sevastova made a comeback by breaking Valeria
in the fifth game and levelled the score to 3-3 as she held her serve in the sixth game. During the seventh game Valeria broke Sevastova for the second time and held her serve in the eighth game to secure a lead of 5-3. During the ninth game Sevastova again
broke Valeria, to secure her first set victory.
The players had bagged a set each and were now playing for the final set. Opening the third set was Sevastova as both the players won on their respective serves the score had levelled at 1-1. Valeria was not going to let the sixth
seeded Sevastova to win today and as she broke her opponent for the first time, she held her serve in the fourth game to secure a lead of 3-1. During the following four games the players smashed three aces in total with Sevastova smashing two and Valeria
one and again conquered their respective service games. During the eighth game Valeria held her serve and in the ninth game she finally broke her opponent to clog the match and the set.
After three sets Savinykh stood her ground and will now be facing Eva Birnerova in the quarterfinal.
