Will Valerian root interact with Atenolol or any other blood pressure medicne?

  1. Valerian root is a hypotensive, lowers blood pressure. It is very safe and can even be used in pregnancy. Atenolol, however, is pretty scary stuff and can possibly interact with something as inocuous as aspirin. I wouldn't take it myself, but since you are, ask your pharmacist about any possible interaction. He probably won't know. Your medical practicioner probably won't know either.     Valerian's properties are: sedative, hypotensive, hypnotic, carminative, mild anodyne, expectorant, aromatic, antidiuretic, relaxant, spasmolytic. Maybe that will help the pharmacist to advise you.


  2. It should be safe.  You shouldn't have any problems.  Valerian is a very good herb, too.
