Valerie Inghels and Thomas Vilaceca win 200m butterfly title: Day one – National Open of Montpellier
Valerie Inghels of USA and Thomas Vilaceca of France dictated terms to their competitors by winning gold medal of the 200m butterfly in Women and Men’s category on day one of the 2012 National Open of Montpellier on February 3.
Inghels showered her expertise in the Women’s butterfly discipline by surpassing her competitors on the finishing end for gold medal. With her irresistible efforts, she shattered hopes of her challengers and advanced on the medal rostrum for gold medal.
The American swimmer was the first one to dive into the water. With her relentless efforts, she kept her opponents at a considerable distance and concluded her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 21.66 seconds for gold medal.
The gold medallist was followed by Rebecca Matthews of Great Britain, who remained almost four seconds behind and appeared on the finishing wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 25.29 seconds for silver medal. The third position of the event was secured by
Lisa Verlaeghe of Belgium, who stayed 3.42 seconds slower from her former finisher and reached the podium for bronze medal by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 28.71 seconds.
In the meantime, the crowd witnessed laudable efforts of Vilaceca in the Men’s equivalent event. He remained dominant over his challengers throughout the four-lap event and ended his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 02.91 seconds for gold medal.
He was trailed by Marvin Maisonneuve of France, who was approximately three seconds away from him and stepped on the podium for silver medal by reporting an effort of 2 minutes and 05.53 seconds. Maisonneuve’s teammate, Romain Mrowinski secured third fastest
spot of the race as he settled on the podium for bronze medal by completing his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 08.47 seconds.
Vilaceca was relaxed with his astonishing effort in the distant butterfly discipline and aroused expectations of his supporters by articulating that he will work hard for the upcoming 2012 London Olympics.
Furthermore, the session completed after the conclusion of all scheduled events in Men and Women’s category while the crowd acknowledged tremendous efforts of all position holders in their exclusive events.
