Valeriy Atrashchenkov defeats Eugeny Pochtarev in 2013 European Club Championships – Badminton news
Men’s Singles expert Valeriy Atrashchenkov continued his winning streak in European Club Championships and thrashed Eugeny Pochtarev in a Group 4 match on Thursday, May 30, 2013.
This 26-minute tussle was Men’s Singles tie of a match between ASPTT Strasbourg and SHVMS Telesens badminton clubs. It was staged at the local badminton arena of Beauvais, France.
A huge crowd assembled to support the local club’s campaigner Valeriy and they were over the moon when he registered a favourable result of 21-14 and 21-12.
Valeriy, who belongs to Ukraine, did not show any mercy for his compatriot shuttler and cast him away with a staggering knock in both sets. On the other hand, Eugeny failed to serve a notice of his potential and lost a valuable match point.
In the first set of the match, Valeriy unleashed a flurry of power packed strokes and established an unassailable lead straight away in the beginning. He relished full benefits of this initial advantage and strengthened his grip over the game.
The Ukrainian campaigner, who was playing for ASPTT Strasbourg badminton club, finished first half of the set with a respectable total and maintained that upper hand in the latter part of game as well.
Although Eugeny put an honest effort to counterbalance the situation, yet luck was not on his side. He had to surrender after reading the decisive figures of 14-21 on the board.
The following game was not much different from the previous one as both contenders were poles apart in terms of performance. The suppressed shuttler of first set could not come out of his rival’s influence and knelt down tamely.
Meanwhile, Valeriy played with an authoritative approach from very first stroke to the last one and proved himself superior in all departments of game. He raised his chances of success by ruling the court in the preliminary stage.
Valeriy placed a mountainous figure of 11 before the one-minute break and capitalised this psychological edge in second half of the set. He maintained a significant difference of nine points and swept the table with an overwhelming score of 21-12.
This was a wrap and Valeriy earned a valuable match point for his team ASPTT Strasbourg.
