Valero Texas Open helps raise millions dollars for children welfare charities across US – Golf News
The organisers of the charity event involving the major golf players are upbeat about the success of the event, which is estimated to have raised $9 million for charities, working for the welfare of children across the United States.
The announcement was made during an event organized for the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in Texas, at the headquarters of the Valero Energy Corporation, the title sponsor for the Valero Texas Open.
According to the Valero Texas Open and Benefit for Children Golf Classic officials, fund raising for children’s charities is the major reason behind the success of the event, each year.
Last year, the officials managed to raise a record sum of $8 million. This year, the amount is increased by $1 million, which speaks of the increasing popularity of the event.
With this increase, the tournament gets the chance of becoming the largest charity event on the PGA Tour.
“We always have a lot of fun during tournament week, but for us, raising money for children's charities is what the Valero Texas Open is all about,” said Mike Crownover, head of this year's tournament effort and Valero Senior Vice President of Human Resources.
“We couldn't raise these funds without the generosity of our sponsors and business partners, and we couldn't put the tournament on at all without the efforts of the thousands of volunteers who are out every day making sure everything goes smoothly,” he added.
There are different ways of raising charity funds during the week of Valero Texas Open at the Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio.
During the tournament, sponsorships are sold to different players. Moreover, a special event, Valero Benefit for Children Golf Classic, is held on Monday and collected proceeds are then donated to different charities in the countries selected by the Valero
employees.
In addition to that, the organizers of the Texas Open, Golf San Antonio, announces Birdies for Charity program that donates a certain amount of money on each birdie made in the tournament.
Chip In for Schools program is another way to help the charity by allowing different schools to sell the tournament tickets on discounted rates and keep the proceeds.
