Valero Texas Open to feature seven major winners - Golf News
The Valero Texas Open will showcase seven major winners in the 90th staging of the event, at the AT&T Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio from April 19 to 22, 2012.
Ben Curtis, the former British Open champion, is confirmed to contend against the 144-man field. His last victory on the PGA Tour came in the 84 Lumber Classic in 2006.
Later, he went out of the scene and never bounced back to give a tough time to his opponents on the course.
In the current season, he has played a total of three PGA Tour events and made the cut only once in the Puerto Rico Open presented by seepuertorico.com, where he tied for the 14th position.
The former PGA Champion, Shaun Micheel, is also suffering from a bad patch in his career and he has not won a single event since his PGA title came in 2003.
David Duval’s victory in The Open Championship in 2001 proved to be unlucky for him as it ended his amazing record of wins in the five-year run. He recorded a total of 13 wins on the PGA Tour during the tenure of 1997 to 2001.
Later, the game of golf witnessed him losing his form. The time has now come that he has not been able to make a single cut in the seven events that he has played so far on the 2012 PGA Tour.
Rich Beem,Mike Weir and Lee Janzen are other major winners who have not been able to impress their fans in the recent years.
Justin Leonard, the former British Open champion, has also returned to the field of Texas, where he registered a total of three victories in the past.
He said that he has always liked to visit Texas and enjoys playing golf. This year, he will be a must-watch player, as he will contend to become the first player in the history of the event to record a fourth win.
His last victory in the Valero Texas Open came in 2007, when he defeated Jesper Parnevik with a birdie on the third extra hole in the playoffs.
The TPC San Antonio officials have also announced to celebrate the 90th staging of the event through the arrangement of different activities and festivities on the venue.
