Valery Rudnev trounces Yahor Yatsyk to reach main draw – Siberia Open 2012 CH
World number 826, Valery Rudnev of Russia, rolled past the 1191st ranked player from Belarus, Yahor Yatsyk, into the main draw of the Siberia Open in Tyumen, Russia.
Rudnev allowed his Belarusian rival to win just four games in the entire contest, clinching it in straight sets 6-4, 6-0 in just 50 minutes and booking his place in the main round.
The Russian contender and Yatsyk went on equal terms in the first four games to square off the proceedings at 2-2. Rudnev stung a break in the fifth and held his following serve to gain a 4-2 advantage. The Russian national maintained
his lead till the end and closed it 6-4.
Rudnev neither hit an ace nor made any double fault, keeping his first serve percentage at 58 and incredibly securing 14 of the 15 points on them. In comparison, Yatsyk banged in three aces and 57 percent of the first deliveries
but he could win just 12 of the 17 points on them. The Belarusian contestant was unable to save one of the two break points he faced and failed to convert the one he received in the opener.
After a fairly competitive first set, it was an all Rudnev show in the second one. The Russian participant hit three blows to Yatsyk and held all of his own serves, winning six back to back games and capturing it 6-0.
Rudnev hit a single ace this time but his double fault remained at zero. The Russian player put in 67 percent of the first serves and converted nine of the 10 of them into points. The 24-year-old took complete advantage of his
Belarusian opponent’s weak deliveries, as he claimed six of the points on both first and second returns. Yatsyk was himself to blame for this poor ending, committing six double faults. Rudnev did not come across any break threat and utilised three of the four
opportunities he created in the second set.
The Russian contestant is slated to play the Czech lucky loser, Michal Schmid, in the first round of the main draw. The winner of the match between these two will go on to meet the ninth seeded player, Radu Albot, in the second
round.
Rudnev’s 1756th ranked countryman, Alexander Perfilov, could not reach the main draw, as he got beaten by the world number 476, Sergey Betov of Belarus, in straight sets 1-6, 2-6 in the final qualifier.
