Wouldn't it be wise to tip before they park your car to ensure that the valet will take care of your car?

  1. The usual way is to tip when you get your car back.  If you tip up front and a different valet brings the car back he or she will expect a tip.

  2. I figure that if anything happens to my car between the time they park it, and retrieve it, they are responsible. So, I only tip when they bring it to me.

  3. What makes you think if you give them the money up-front that they will be gentle with your car?  Now there is no incentive to be nice to the car.

  4. I work in a hotel as a doorman/valet.  Tipping beforehand certainly gives me an incentive to be gentle with your car.  Valets are paid minimum wage and we make money on tips.  Nobody forced me to take this job but it's the only job I can find for an immigrant like me.  For the one who said that it is our job, you are right.  The simple thing to do is not to have valet service if you do not want to tip.  TIPS= To Insure Prompt/Proper Service.  And if your car stinks, please do not have valet service.  I don't care what kind of car it is, as long as you take care of me, I will take care of your car.

  5. why tip when that is their job and they are the one that gets up everyday and goes to that job you didn't ask them to come do that job just for you

  6. Only if you are tipping very heavy so that they will actually treat your car special or park it in a great spot which will get you out quickly when you leave.  If you are rolling Altima and it is your baby, tipping the valet $5 before hand will not get you the Ferrari, Benz, Jaguar, or BMW spot when those folks are dropping $20's & $50's.

  7. use the same format as if you were tipping at he bar lunch etc
