Valium and its effects...?

no i am not going to kill myself by the way i am doing a research paper for my psyh class and a section is about suicide and i am talking about different pain killers. one in particular is valium can it kill you? what does it to you and how many do you have to take for it to be life threatening?

  1. Valium is actually a benzodiazepine, which are similar to barbituates, however, less addictive. It acts as a mild tranquilizer which targets the central nervous system. Its primarily used to treat severe forms of anxiety of panic attacks. While less addictive than its cousins, benzodiazepines are addictive, and tolerance will be developed with extended use. It can be dangerous if taken in over dosage, however, it depends on the person on how it reacts.


  2. Everything Tim said is right, I would just add that Valium is not a pain killer. Benzodiazepines may reduce some the psychological burden of suffering but does not actually reduce the sensation of pain.
