Question:

Valium question?

I am having my wisdom teeth out tomorrow and my oral surgeon gave me two 10mg tablets of Valium for nerves. I am supposed to take one tonight when I go to bed and one an hour before the surgery. How out of it do you think I will be when I get to the oral surgeon's office? I am hoping a lot because I really hate needles and I need an IV!

  1. you will be pretty calm.

calm enough that someone needs to drive you to the dentist.

Just look the otherr way when they give  you the IV - it stings a little, and you will only know it is there for 5 to 7 seconds.

  2. You should be very out of it.  About 30 minutes after taking it tonight, you will be out of it.

Then tomorrow morning, you will be out of it again after 30 minutes, and hopefully you will have some residual drowsiness after tonight's dose.

  3. you should be perfectly calm.

I've taken klonopin (a benzodiazepine, same class of drugs as valium) for flight anxiety- usually i'm freaking out and having a panic attack but with the klonopin i was sitting back smiling the entire flight.

They're very useful drugs, you have nothing to worry about.

  4. valium wont make you out of it, just more relaxed. For me I need lots of valium because i have dentophobia and even then im crying.

typically they put you to sleep for it though.

  5. Depending on your body size and tolerance for medications...you will probably be stoned on your bum.  Make sure someone is taking you and picking you up from the surgery.

  6. You won't be out of it. You'll actually feel really mellow. I had the same procedure, but can you believe they didn't tell me it was valium? I took it, and didn't understand why I was starting to feel like I was drunk, and had a FREAK OUT in the dentist's office. I didn't help that I was signing all of these waivers saying I wouldn't sue if my jaw got broken! WTF! I thought I was being tricked. A very embarrassing moment. If only they had told me, I would have enjoyed it the experience.

  7. I don't know your age but if you're of driving age, I hope he told you not to drive yourself to his office after taking the 10mg valium.  Taking that strength (as you'll see when you take it the night before), it will probably put you to sleep and you will be very relaxed and out of it, just like you hoped you'd be.
